Sufi story du jour - "There is more light here"
While looking through my library this evening, I came across a wonderful book ( The Psychology of Consciousness ) - from my undergraduate days taking classes from Dr. Charles Tart; this one was my introduction to beloved Sufi stories such as this one: "There is More Light Here"

A young man saw Nasrudin searching for something on the ground. "What have you lost, Mulla?" he asked. "My key," said the Mulla. So the man went down on his knees too, and they both looked for it. After a time, the other man asked: "Where exactly did you drop it?" "In my house." "Then why are you looking here?" "There is more light here than inside my own house."

If you enjoy these Sufi stories as much as I do, here are a couple of classic books by Idries Shah,
Wisdom of the Idiots, and Tales of the Dervishes. I'm also grateful to Dr. Tart for introducing me to these works.

About the header graphic - Lake Wakatipu
A quick update about the picture at the top of each page; a few years ago, we visited the Queenstown area of New Zealand and drove around a portion of Lake Wakatipu with the Southern Alps in the background toward Glenorchy, where we had lunch listening to Zorba the Greek (just a few days after trying a bit of Zorbing. You can see the full image here .The scenery was spectacular; no wonder they chose this area for some of the Lord of the Rings filming... Wonderful country, wonderful people ...

Welcome to my new blog!
Hi all:

Welcome! I've been meaning to revamp my website for over a decade, and finally listened to the promptings ... It was asking to be several sites, so here's the first site, brucerawles.com, which will be an ever expanding collection of my personal musings (this blog),
favorite inspirations of all sorts - music, art, perhaps a Rumi poem here and there, a fun or mind-stretching video, books (so many great ones!) and whatever else I feel like sharing with the Universe. I'll keep other specific interests that deserve a site of their own (like sacred geometry) elsewhere. I want this to be interactive, so please use the "Contact Bruce" link freely, and/or (better yet) post replies to my posts here that YOU would like to share with the planet. I'm savoring an indoor day, watching the first snowfall outside the window here in southern Oregon. So many friends, travels, and worthwhile things to let you know about ... no time like the present to start! Cheers! Happy
